Now, I have eaten at many of these places myself, but haven't tried the items Kathy claims are the best, though I am working on the list now. My friend Mary and I checked out the Blue Door Pub yesterday for lunch and were talked into the Frenchy Blucy instead which was stuffed with swiss cheese and served with a jus. Yummy, but I guess now we have to go back to try the Blucy! If you click on the link above to check out the full article, there is a video on how the Blue Door Pub makes their Blucy's.
In the spirit of the article, I have decided to compile my own list of faves from 2008. My criteria for being on this list is simple...the first ten dishes I can think of that I would absolutely in no circumstance ever turn down for a meal. (in no particular order)Beef Udon Noodle bowl at Tanpopo Noodle Shop (pictured)
Grilled Beef Noodle Salad at Hoa Bien (University Ave)
Tagliarini di Locanda del Lupo at Broder's Pasta Bar
Slice of pepperoni pizza at Paisano's (Selby/Dale)
Angus Burger at Happy Gnome
Rosemary Olive Oil Bruegger's Bagel with Salmon Cream Cheese
Beef Buritto in Red Sauce (not the real name) at El Burrito Mercado
Tagliatelle with Foie Gras Meatballs 112 Eatery (apparently I like to eat pasta...I am seeing a pattern)
Vegetarian Platter at Fasika (University/Snelling)
And though I don't have any one favorite item at this restaurant because everything is just so good, my most frequented favorite restaurant to go to with friends last year was Brasa Rotisserie (pictured). For my readers in the Twin Cities, what are your favorite local dishes?

Rachael you're making me hungry! I wholeheartedly agree with Tanpopo - I had numerous cravings during my pregnancy for Tanpopo. I'm also a fan of Brasa, anxiously awaiting their St. Paul debut. We've been wanting to check out Pop! so I'll be sure to try the Asado when we go.
It looks like the Andersons are big fans of your blog! Random faves that come to mind right now:
Massaman curry with chicken at Ruam-Mit.
Beef brisket Phở at Hoa-Bien. I'd say the special beef (brisket, rare and tripe), but the tripe was tougher than tires. Nice to see this place mentioned. It seems like they are sort the dark horse Vietnamese place in town.
It's likely never the same more than once, but the chef select sushi dinner at Azia/Anemoni was spectacular!
My guilty pleasure would be cream cheese puffs from Chin Chin (new strip mall chinese place on Smith in W St Paul). I'm sure they break all kinds of rules, but I just can't stop eating them. It doesn't help that they offer delivery.
Sorry for blogging on your blog...
Marie, Pop! is right around the corner from where I work. If you want to grab lunch sometime, just let me know.
And Josh, the Massaman curry at Ruam-Mit was truly exceptional under the previous owners. I just didn't dig it as much this past year. That and I managed to reproduce the orginal version at home.
I will try the beef brisket next time I go. I didn't mention Azia because I couldn't remember if I have eaten there in the past year. I LOVE their cranberry cream cheese wontons and they make the best pomegranate mojito. Ridiculously good.
And feel free to log on my blog ANY old time.
Ooh! I'm going to take you up on your lunch offer. We actually happened to eat at Pop this weekend. I took your advice and enjoyed one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had. Delicious!
